A Few Firsts...

  • Brynn learned how to snap and now it is her new passion. We had recently been trying to teach her, but like anything else, it was just frustrating and not working out - I will never be able to teach her anything, it will always have to be someone else. And then one day this week her little friend, Rhyan, showed up at preschool snapping and what do you know, 2 1/2 hours later I picked her up and she was snapping. Huh...maybe I need to figure out how to teach like another 4 year old would teach.

  • We took the kids bowling last night. It was fun, I really think they enjoyed it, and aren't they adorable in those little itty bitty bowling shoes?!?! They loved helping eachother out with getting the balls ready and believe it or not no one was injured and nothing got broken.
  • Alert the media!...for the first time EVERS, ALL 3 Wilson kids slept through the night last night!!!!!!! Brynn and Tyler slept from 9pm to 6am and Dyaln slept from 10pm to almost 7am (his first time ever ever, but he was really only getting up about once before that)!!!! As I rolled over at 6am (I was completely out last night or would have been laying awake earlier wondering what in the world was wrong and seeing who I needed to check on) PJ asked me if I felt refreshed...and unfortunately I had to say no, I still didn't want to get up. Guess it takes more than one night of continuous 8 hours of sleep to be refreshed and on top of things. Who knows...I don't want to cross my fingers or anything...but maybe, just maybe there may be another night or two like this in our future.

Klepto!

I just thought I should make note of the fact that my daughter is a little kleptomaniac. She has this thing about papers, or handouts, or business cards, or whatever it is that may be sitting out in an office or store or wherever. She always has to grab a few, she can't help it. And then she carries her papers around with her until I find them lying around and throw them away - but no worries, she'll just grab more at the next place we go. We have to set limits on how many she can take. Let's hope she just sticks with random papers and doesn't move on to anything bigger or better.

Soccer Class!

I was so excited for Tyler to start his soccer class this morning (with daddy)! We've been talking to him about it for a while and when PJ went to prep him for his class earlier this week we realized we didn't even have a ball for him to practice with so we had to go and get one. And Tyler has been acting really excited about it. But as PJ put it, the first day was a little bit of a crash and burn - Tyler did pretty good at times but he was a little disinterested in the whole class thing. He didn't really care what the group was doing and tended to wander off a lot. It was kind of like his art class I took him to last fall: he had fun for a while but then when he was done, he was done and he got up and left. I'm sure he'll get the hang of it though as he continues to go and we keep playing with him. It was still cute to see him stretching and then kicking and running after the ball :)

Conversation with Brynn on the way home from soccer...
Brynn: what are we doing today?
Mom: well daddy is going to go work out and then mommy is going to leave to go scrapbooking.
Brynn: but tyler and i don't want to just play by ourselves anymore today we want a friend.
Mom: i don't think we will be playing with friends today sweetie. we're just going to hang out.
Brynn: can we go to the park?
Dad: we have our very own park in the back yard.
Brynn: no, we have our pirate ship (that's what she calls her swing set)
Dad: since mommy is gone maybe we can go to a playplace and get some dinner tonight.
Brynn: but that's so far away!
Dad: brynn did you know i love you so much???
Brynn: stop it guys!
Dad: stop what?
Brynn: you guys are just giving me a headache!
...Oh that girl!

Making Me Smile This Week...

Brynn sharing her goofy glasses with Dylan:My baby who loves to arch his back and crank his neck and sleep in wierd positions: My kids who sometimes decide to play so well together:
Sweet baby faces...and screams. Monday night we decided to try giving Dylan his first rice cereal - we'll be waiting a little longer on that one:Team work. Brynn and Tyler were trying to get dad's shoes off so he would play with them. It was stuck, so they put their little heads together and came up with this solution:

PJ was Tagged!

Blogging is one of those things I am greatful for---staying up to date, family history, all the stuff I want to do, but don't want to do. For that reason I support my wife and all you other women for the great job you do. That being said, I don't quite understand the tagging bit. No one ever follows up. But, because, for some reason, Lyndsay is pretty high on my "Cool Person" list right now (careful, this list changes daily) I thought I might appease her and the rest of you a little and respond to her tag with my first ever post. Apparently, everyone else on the list is either way to cool for blogging. Anyways, here is the "8 Things" tag. The 8 things appear in no specific order and caution, this could get a little PG-13.

8 Things I'm Passionate About:
1 - Exercise, although it is purely for my own vanity
2 - Church, just ask the Releif Society
3 - Medicine, I kinda have to be, I guess
4 - Being a good dad...sometimes I wonder how well my passion is expressed to my kids
5 - BYU sports, which is more apparent when they lose. The rest of the day just sucks!!!
6 - Cleanliness, although my definition and yours may be a little different
7 - Sleep, my kids are my detriment

3 - "Are you kidding me?"
4 - "Seriously?!"

7 - "I don't care how much you saved, It still cost money." (Notice it is alwasy in the past tense)
8 - "Geez, I'm funny."

8 Things I want to do before I die:
1 - Be done with school
2 - Sleep
3 - Get through to my kids...Ur, be a good dad
4 - Get a six pack of abs
5- Be on a game show
6 - Travel Europe
7 - Win over my mother in law

1 - I am not in charge...at least not with a wife and 3 kids
2 - Some things are easy, most are not
3 - Nothing is gauranteed
4 - I am truly blessed...see #1
5 - Despite all your hard work, genes can still kick your butt
6 - Winning isn't everything, but then why do I hate to lose?

3 - The Sacred Grove
4 - Machu Picchu

Back to Ballet!

Brynn's ballet/tap/tumble class started again today. We've been talking about it for a little while and of course, completely in her true character, she's been saying she's not going to go - even though she was sad when it ended last fall. But this morning came and she willing got ready and went. And it only took, oh, half the class to warm up and have a good time. But I think we will be good to go from here on out. And Tyler is back to watching on the sidelines...
Tyler waited for the whole hour (well really she always goes over an hour) very patiently. Then as girls started filing out of the room he headed for the doorway and stood right in the middle of it - yes, the little ballerinas had to manuver around him. Brynn was one of the last ones out and when he saw her coming he left the doorway (which he isn't allowed to do while he is watching) and made a mad dash for her and yelled "Bin!" (which means Brynn) and threw his arms around her and it was so darling cute....and Brynn immediately shoved him off and away with a dirty look on her face...oh that girl.

4 Months

Dylan turned 4 months old today. He weighed in at 15 lbs 14.5 oz which put him in the 75th% for weight. And he measured 25.75 inches which put him in the 75th - 90th% for height. So as the doctor obviously stated, his height and weight are staying very proportionate and he is growing very well. Dylan has started to grab for and play with toys and even likes to stare at the TV when the kids have a show on or daddy is watching sports (I know, its starting so early). And he can finally even drink regular/cold formula without having it spit out the sides of his mouth - which I think is a big step since that means I don't have to heat up water in the middle of the night anymore. Speaking of the middle of the night, after the holidays and having everyone around to hold and love him, Dylan decided that he didn't like to be put down at night. So at the ripe age of 3 1/2 months we decide he would have to cry it out. It became not as hard for me this time since I was SO tired and think I actually fell asleep for most of it seeing as he cried most of the night. However, that one night was all it took and he is back to getting up only 1 or 2 times most nights. Good boy!
For "Christmas" we got Dylan some hardware to our playset so that we could add a baby swing...and today we've just gotten around to actually hanging it up. I think he really enjoyed it, and now it will be easier to be outside with all three of the kids since he has somewhere better to hang out.

Bowties

Well, at least this cheesy face is a little clean this time...finally! But that's not really the point of this post. I would like to know everyone's opinion on something. I decided that my boys, cute as they are, would look absolutely darling in bowties. I like bowties. However, PJ about flipped his lid when I came home with one, and went off about how we only dress our kids in things we would wear (i have always agreed with that logic). So, apparently he would never be caught dead in a bowtie - and honestly I don't think I would want him to wear one, he wouldn't look so cute. But just look at that face...and that bowtie...so I showed up at Church (PJ has to go early for meetings) with Tyler all decked out in it anyway. Here's where your opnion comes in - have I totally lost it???? Or is it really OK for me to make my boys wear bowties?? (And yes, he actually left it on all day. I couldn't have been prouder.) I'm pretty sure my next project will be for me to learn how to sew them so I can choose out the cool material - not to mention you can't really find them anywhere. K, so, I'll probably still do it anyway but I thought I should know where I stand.

Follow-Up

Tyler went in for his follow-up doctors appointment today (http://keddyskorner.blogspot.com/2008/12/poor-baby.html). He has become very sensitive about his nose - he won't let us clean it or wipe it or touch it or anything. So yesterday we started talking to him about how he was going back to see his nose doctor. He would just get a big smile on his face and say "shot" and go about his business. Uh...ok... Then today he was happy as could be as he sat in the office, and even when the doctor came in. But then when the doc's instruments came out Tyler LOST IT completely just like we were expecting. No I was not a strong enough mom to be there, but PJ was there to hold him down while the splits were pulled out. Everything looked pretty good. He does have a small infection at the base of his nose but nothing to worry about. He'll go back in for another check up in 6 weeks. Until then here's hoping he sleeps - I think he literally got up at least once every hour last night. Ahhh...the joys of parenthood.

Bye-bye little Geo

I didn't think this day would actually come. This is my good, trusty Geo Prism. The first car I ever bought myself right after I got my first full-time job at BYU. It looks like a piece, but really, it runs great and we never had problems with it. I thought we would always have this car. I thought Brynn would get it (lucky girl) when she turned 16. But seeing as she is still a ways away from driving, and PJ thought he needed something a little nicer (don't know why), we didn't think we should really keep 3 cars. So we gave her away last night. And as we were getting it cleaned & ready to hand over, the cleaner guy offered us $1200 cash right there on the spot for it. At least it is nice knowing it is still wanted and loved. Thanks Carol for letting me buy it from you! Its been good for us!!

On a side note: PJ has always said his car is his car - it is the one place I am not allowed to take charge of, order him around in or have him keep clean. So, as he was forced to clean it out before we got rid of it, we pulled out 14 empty cans of pop, 12 socks, a GAZILLION school papers, 1 tie, Brynn's missing sunglasses, 2 snow scrapers, 1 hanger, 5 golf balls and a golf ball cleaning kit, and lots of other misc. items...need I contine?! I'm sure that there is a new found respect for his new car and that won't happen again.

Tyler Update

Thank you for all the calls we've been getting of people checking up on Tyler. Honestly, the week has been rough for him. PJ and I both agree that the doctor completely downplayed the recovery process. We weren't prepared for the drainage, the even worse breathing, the serious stench, the drooling, the throwing up of all the saliva in his tummy, the extreme emotions/constant crying, just everything. He spent many nights this week sleeping with me because he couldn't make it more than an hour without waking up crying. For some reason he won't wear shirts, they seem to bother him...and so he is usually just in a diaper. This whole process makes me very scared for many years down the road when they have to go in and fix his septum which is the real problem.

Anyway, you don't have to listen to this sound clip but its just an example of him struggling at night to sleep/breath...which is why we needed to at least try this procedure. We are still hoping that after he recovers it will have helped. Notice during this clip that at times he goes at least 10 seconds of not breathing before he startles himself into breathing again. I lay there at night with him and its just painful to listen too. My poor baby (and sorry about the other baby crying in the background)...

Oh rise & shout the Cougars are out...

A true fan? I don't know...you tell me...but I don't think there is any secret where our allegiance lies...
I also got PJ this huge Y sticker for his car for Christmas but didn't have it on because the windows hadn't been tinted yet. On a side note, it took hours and about 5,000 tries to get the stupid thing on perfectly. We don't work well together on projects like this - we would be an absolute disaster on the Amazing Race. I asked him if he thought he would get in trouble because of vision problems and he said he didn't care :) Don't worry the vision is really fine. He also got the liscense plate cover as a gift from his mom.
If you look carefully you'll also see the Y sugar cookie waiting for Santa. We're sure he is a BYU Cougar fan too.And it took a miracle, or at least a precious car which inspired some motivation, to fit both vehicles in the garage for the first time in 4 years!!! Yes, he went on a cleaning binge and after all his hard work and determination both the cars fit. Now, me being able to get in with the kids is a totally different story.

Uncle Dallin Visits

This is our special Uncle Dallin...
He saw the post I did on Uncle TJ visiting and he wanted to know why he didn't get his own. So, despite the fact that he gives me a hard time for having a blog, here is my tribute to him (maybe he'll actually leave a comment for once).

He and Brynn have always been especially close. He was living with us when she was born and he spent many hours "babysitting" while PJ and I were at work. They had lots of fun and adventures hanging out back in the day. I can recall one time he tried calling me to come home early because she had gone #2...well she exploded really...and I walked in just as he was using scissors to cut her out of her dirty onsie. Oh Dal... Here they are playing doggy playdoh:Here he is nice and clean shaven. Dylan is wearing the darling basketball outfit that Aunt Laura picked out for his Christmas present. He may be following in his Uncle Dallin's footsteps by being so tall so maybe he'll play college ball too.
Another pic of Dallin and Dylan (in his sling). Dallin wonders why we didn't just go ahead and name Dylan Dallin. I have to admit I found myself mixing the names up when we were together over Christmas.

Here Dallin is using one of his many skills to build a really tall tower out of bricks before Tyler can knock it down.

Speaking of skills...apparently he is a wiz-kid at Guitar Hero. And Laura is beautifully wonderful as his back-up on vocals.
While he excels in many areas, big brother PJ can still beat him at many things...like ping pong.

For Christmas Dallin and Laura got me a pasta maker/food grinder attachment for my Kitchen Aid (which they were also so generous to have given me for my birthday). I was very excited and thought I would be cute and fun and just whip up some homemade pasta with homemade alreado sauce for dinner. It was a disaster! The pasta wasn't working and so the sauce got neglected...but Dallin ate it anyway...

We sure do love it when Uncle Dallin comes to visit!
