Making Fun of Me

Dylan will sometimes be a little difficult while we are trying to put him down to bed, or when he wakes up in the night, because he will be crying simply because he lost his pacifier and all we have to do is go in and get it and put it back in his mouth. However, we usually have to do this several times in a row and its kind of annoying.
Well, last night after I woke up to feed him I went back in to burp and change him only to see that he had put his bottle down, found his pacifier HIMSELF, and was peacefully cuddled up with his blankie. I got back in to bed around 3:30am to proudly (wake and) tell PJ what his son had finally done for the first time - and what was his groggy response...
PJ: "How 'bout you go take a picture so you can blog about this momentous occassion tomorrow..."
Me: "Good idea honey!"
So there you have it - Dylan successfully found his own pacifier in the crib last night. Maybe he will keep it up and make our lives a little bit easier...

Pillows

I got a pattern for these adorable travel pillows because I just knew my kids needed them for all the time we would be spending in the car over the next few weeks (with our trip and moving). So, as if I don't have enough that I should be doing, I decided they had to have them. Brynn wanted a pink monkey and Tyler wanted a blue lion - so that is just what they got. And even PJ could see how excited they were about them, so while I sewed, he watched TV and helped stuff...yup, he helped me be crafty. Good man. They turned out pretty cute but the test will be if they really use them to get comfy in the car, or just play with them.

Ghost Town

Grandma/Annette found this cute little "Ghost Town" along the Superstition mountains and invited us out for a fun time and a little picnic. It was an old mining town with lots of old stuff to look at and old buildings to go in. Brynn liked seeing the horses (from a safe distance) and Tyler couldn't take his eyes off the "Choo Choo". It was definately a fun afternoon for the whole family!

3 Nice Things

With my last post I needed to vent...like I stated, I was having issues. But apparently, in venting, I hurt my husbands feelings (which is hard to do). He did what I asked him, he helped me get rid of stuff. And as he put it, he did for me what he and I both knew I would never be able to do for myself. And it did feel slightly liberating to be free of all that clutter (although I use that term VERY loosely when referring to adorable clothes). Either way, he was upset that I left it out there for people to comment on his actions. While we may not understand what he did, it does in reality makes sense. I would like to make it up to him by saying 3 nice things about him:
1). Giving - He is the most generous person I have known. He gives of his time, he shares his talents, he uses his energy, to serve in whatever way is needed. Anyone could call him for anything at any time and he would drop what he is doing to go and help them, with no thought of himself. He believes he has truly been blessed, and so he does what he can to be a blessing to others. He just gives - hence the issue with my clothing ;) But seriously, he is an example to me of loving service and selflessness. And I love him for that.
2). Fatherhood - He is an amazing dad to our kids. One of the first things I learned about PJ when I met him was that he wanted to be a dad more than anything. And now that we have children he has stepped up to the challenge and is the teacher, the leader, the nurturer, the disciplinarian, the man that they need him to be. He is more involved and helpful than I could ask for and I cherish the moments when I see him interacting with them. I look to him as an example of how to be patient and how to guide our little ones.
3). Focus - I made the mistake of agreeing with someone who said he was intense. I'm not sure what the difference is but he didn't like the word intense...he likes the word focused. Whatever you call it, he is that. He is driven and can accomplish anything - nothing is too hard for him. He is blunt and honest but people really appreciate his integrity. He is what he is and I love him.
So there you have it - 3 nice things about my PJ. Feel free to add anything to my list :) By the way, my intent really wasn't to get people to leave really nice sweet comments about the wardrobe I pick out - although your sweet thoughts did help me through a tough time so thank you :)
On a very random side note...
While I have found the two shades of lipstick that I love, they are supposed to be long lasting lip color that stays on all day...but for the life of me I can't get them to stay on my lips for more than 3 hours!!! It is a daily struggle. However, the last time Tyler got into my makeup, and did this with my frustrating lipwear, it literally stayed on his face for 3 days before I could get it to come off. Are you serious?!? And so yes, this is what he will look like as we go out in public for the next 3 days (which happen to have some big events for us). Oh well, at least you'll know why he looks like that in our upcoming pictures. Geez!... the irony!

Idols and Issues

I had a rough week. Normally I would purge our home and get rid of all our accumulated junk while we packed for this move. However, I have movers coming to pack me this time. So I informed PJ that I needed him to make me go through each room in the house so that we could be ready when they came - I didn't want to move unncessary stuff. Well after getting on him, about helping me with this, he went overboard. And made me cry - yes cry - and I'm not a crier.

My issue you ask?!?...

Sadly enough it was my daughters wardrobe that brought me to tears...
Please notice the darling shoes (that also went so great with her Eeyore halloween costume that year):

I love buying cute clothes for my kids. I take pride in how they look. I put a considerable amount of time and effort (and money) into it.

I had rows and rows and rows of boxes of saved clothes in our garage (and closets) that I loved and that remind me of special moments. Like when Brynn took her first steps in this dress while we were in Colorado at my Grandparents... Or the Easter where my sister and I unknowingly bought our daughters the same Easter dress...

Well, I was saving them and he made me get rid of them...all of them. Honestly he let me keep one solitary item - Brynn's blessing dress. But anyway, some went to Deseret Industries, and others, my most special ones went to friends. And that should make me happy, and it does...I just have some issues I need to deal with first.

They are clothes. Just clothes. I will move on and stop crying eventually.

Luke AFB Air Show

Tyler has been SO excited about getting to go see planes (high in the sky and on the ground) at the Air Force Base Air Show this weekend. Well today was the day and he knew it. So he got up bright and early, a little after 5am, and informed all of us that it was time to see "airbuses" up in the sky. Poor kid had to wait half the day and, so of course, this was him the second we got in the car to go...

Sadly, it was HOT, and CROWDED, with LONG lines and lots of WALKING so we didn't get to do or see as much as we wanted. But it was worth it for my little boy to get to see his planes. I love how excited he gets about things! Too cute!

Taking Care of Our Bodies

First a foot update:
Thank you for all your concern and follow-ups with PJ's little foot accident (http://keddyskorner.blogspot.com/2009/03/little-competition.html). It looks even better now as his foot is huge and a lovely rainbow of blue and purple and black hues that spread up the ankle and onto his toes. But don't worry, Dr. Wilson went and picked himself up an ankle brace finally and said this will be a slow recovery. At least he can get around on it...

I make sure never to use words like FAT (especially in reference to myself) around my kids - yes, even when Brynn would ask me why my tummy was still big after my baby came out. We walk wherever we can and we try to be as active as possible. And its wonderful to see that they are understanding that we need to eat right and exercise to take care of ourselves. Tyler has become mommy's workout buddy lately:

St. Patty's Party

Happy St. Patricks Day...tomorrow!...So, my kids are hard to keep entertained - they always need to be doing something or they get into trouble, and they always want to be at a friends house or are asking who can come to their house and play. I have trouble keeping up with them. So this year I decided to be more proactive and throw them holiday parties - an easy way to kill lots of birds with one fun stone. And today was their St. Patricks Party.

We started by coloring shamrocks, and lepruchans, and rainbows and pots of gold until everyone showed up. Then we sat under the rainbow (colorful streamers spanning the kitchen, living room, and all the way out into the playroom) and read books that taught us about St. Patricks day. Then they got to find the end of the rainbow where there were green balloons that, when popped, contained gold coins. They had fun with that. And they had little pots to put their gold coins in. Then we ate cake (I admit it, I was pretty darn proud of this one)...
And played and had fun...
Thanks to everyone who came! We love our friends and are going to miss them lots and lots!

Scissor Privilege

Brynn has just had her scissor privilege revoked for an unspeakable amount of time. She has known for years that there are only two people in this world who can cut her hair - mommy (not that I do but I just thought I should leave the possibility out there) and Jenny (our haircutter who now needs to come out of retirement for me). She's had this drilled into her head since she was an infant because I've never wanted to have one of those awful hair do's on my beautiful little girl. And we made it with 4 1/2 years of obedience...until now...
...I was talking on the phone with my mom this morning, walked around the corner, and found a trail of hair chunks on the floor. Oh my goodness! She was very honest and open about it with me, so I remained unusually calm and composed. I pulled her hairback in the mirror so she could see what she had done and her response, "Oh, I look wierd!" Well, I think I can rest assured she won't be doing that again any time soon. Thankfully she has wavy hair so the obvious difference in length (as seen when comparing the left and right side of hair in the picture) blends in most of the time. Here's hoping for the best.

6 Months

Dylan hit 6 months today. He weighed in at 18 lbs 15 oz which puts him in the 74th%. He measured 27 1/2 inches long which puts him at 88th% for height. I got in trouble at the pediatricians office because I'm not feeding Dylan solid foods regularly - he maybe gets them twice a week if he's lucky, and apparently I'm supposed to be feeding him baby food morning and evening. He's just so difficult because he doesn't get it and he just spits everything right back out...but fine...I'll work with him more. And I guess I should be giving him cups already which I did try once but it didn't go over so well...he just thought it was a toy. But he is good at other stuff...like rolling wherever he wants to go and destroying my new carpet because he spits up whenever he is on his tummy. He sleeps through the night several times a week. He loves to have Brynn read to and play with him. And he is doing good at surviving Tyler's attempts to teach him how to be a little boy.

A little competition

My husband is slightly competitive. He's been playing in the Stake Basketball tournament at church and I often have to ask him, when he comes home, who I need to apologize to or if he needs to be grounded for a little while from playing because he can get a little worked up about it. As he puts its, you don't play to have fun - you play to win. Well, I guess his attitude paid off because last night was the championship game, so we went to watch. Unfortunately this is how he spent most of the game...
...yep that's him laying on the ground next to the bench elevating his bum ankle. About 5 minutes into the game he landed on someones foot and crashed to the ground unable to get up. The kids didn't realize daddy was hurt right at first. Tyler was funny to watch - he was cheering "Go Daddy" for a while before he stopped, looked real hard, then turned and said, "Hey, where daddy?? Daddy bye bye?" Then he was very concerned about daddy's "owie" and wanted to be with him. My friend offered to watch the kids right when it happened so I could go help and be with PJ but I said no thanks, I'm safer over here just giving him his time. Oh well, at least they still won.

I tried to get a good angle shot so you could see the immediate swelling but this is the best I got. Notice a difference?!? Not at all surprising, he refused to go get it looked at. As he put it, in 3 months he would be telling other people what was wrong with their ankles so why didn't I trust him to know that there was nothing a doctor could do for him now. Fine, good point.
