From the very first time I saw boys skim boarding on the beach I wanted to get Dylan a skim board. I just knew he would love it. After we bought my treadmill for my birthday we had a nice sized points credit at Sports Authority and so I insisted we use it to finally get a skim board. The boys and I watched a bunch of YouTube videos to try and figure out the proper technique. Preston was even actually pretty excited to give it a try. And sure enough, after watching daddy, Dylan was the one who wanted to jump in and try it out. And he kept trying and trying. Its not exactly super easy to catch on to though. But its always entertaining to watch :P At one point when we were out with some friends and the men folk were all struggling with it I stopped some teenage boys walking by (who had their skim boards in hand) and asked them to give us some pointers. They were very nice and helpful. Its been fun.

Summertime stuff...
A Sunday walk at the "Eagle Drive beach" on base...
Another Sunday walk at the "Marina beach" on base...
Brynn has kinda been obsessed with watching the show Cake Boss and The Next Great Baker. Whenever she has a chance she will grab her tablet, turn on Net flicks and zone out. Well she decided it was high time she got to make some cookies all by herself. Up til now she has only been a helper, doing what I asked her. But this time she insisted that I not be involved. I realized maybe I hadn't taken enough opportunity to actually "teach her" during those helping moments. So I had to hoover and help without really helping. At one point I caught her about to add 1 cup of baking soda instead of 1 tsp... oops! And Tyler helped her realize that 1 1/2 cups of butter was not actually 1 1/2 sticks of butter... it was actually 3. So there were a few little snags along the way but I do believe everyone learned a lot and it has since gone a little bit better.
A beautiful double rainbow on another evening walk around our neighborhood... unfortunately we got caught in a downpour right after this picture was taken...
I just don't have any words... doesn't everyone walk around the house in underwear and goggles??!?...
Summertime Popsicle...
Her friend, Berlyn, gave Kate some hand-me downs. This adorable owl hat was included in the pile. Kate wore it for days despite it being the middle of summer...
We had a serious ant infestation out front! They were little black ones. And they were EVERYWHERE! You couldn't stand in the yard or sidewalk or driveway with out constantly moving your feet and doing an ant dance to keep them off of you. The kids didn't even want to play outside anymore. So we had to handle the situation. And everyone was more then happy to help. We marched into Home Depot and asked what we needed to do. We were told there was a liquid spray that we could use that would be a more immediate impact but not as long lasting. Or there were pellets that would take longer to start working but then would last longer. SO... we did BOTH!...

Father's Day
Last Sunday was Father's Day. For his Father's Day dinner Preston requested Pulled Pork Nachos. And not just any nachos... he needed them made out of the huge can of Nacho Cheese that Sams Club sells. I was shocked when I realized he was serious about the cheese - never in a million years did I think he'd like/want something like that. But I was more then happy to oblige. And they were delish :)

#1 Dad for sure!

Vacation Bible School
The kids went to VBS at the Base Chapel again this year. It was the very first week of summer from 9am to 12pm... which was nice... it helped me ease into summer. And the best part was that it was Kate's first year being old enough to go. So I had a good chunk of time to myself before the chaos ensued for the rest of the day :P It gave me a nice glimpse of what I have to look forward to for this fall. The kids had a blast and of course, have been singing the songs ever since - that always seems to be their favorite part. The theme this year was Agency D3 - Discover Decide Defend. Good times!
