In the spring, at the TOSC (Tyndall Officers Spouses Club) closing social, we played BINGO and I won a prize -- a gift card for KGilbert Photography. It was the prize I wanted to win the most. I knew Kasia Gilbert (her boys are friends with my boys) and I attended a free photography class she had held at the base housing community center a long while back. She was excellent and made photography something I could understand (unlike another teacher/class I had paid to attend at the Arts and Crafts Center). I needed that gift card to help me finally book a professional session for our family on the beach. Only I wanted to save it for the fall. So I did. In the meantime Kasia had decided to take a break from her photography business since life was getting crazy for her as a single mom while her husband was deployed. However, she was sweet enough to do a session just for us anyway. Between her schedule and mine it was a little difficult to find a time that worked well for both of us. We thought we had one. Then that Saturday we woke up to a seemingly random 30 degree drop in temperature (70's to 40's) and 22mph winds. Not exactly something we could work with for a beach session. So we rescheduled for the following Thursday evening (not ideal because it had her boys missing baseball and Brynn skipping Student Council, but oh well). Since daylight savings now makes sunset at 4:49pm we would have to leave for Mexico Beach by 3pm. Which required me to beg and plead and get Preston to reschedule afternoon patients and leave work early. But he did it. And then that afternoon there was a plane that went down which required medical staff to stay available and alert and it also provided another hurdle of getting him out of there early - but he got permission anyway. Then, after all that, about an hour before we needed to leave, Kasia's boys starting throwing up. So we had to cancel and reschedule again. That Saturday we had a Primary Activity at the church and so we planned on meeting her right after that. It was a bit of a crazy busy day and I did my best at keeping us all fresh and clean and ready to go. But we had the activity and then raced to change and get to the beach and as it turns out it was the most perfect evening. The lighting, the wind, the temperature... everything was in our favor this time. And we had a great photo shoot. Whew! It seemed like a pain to get this done but it was worth it :) I love these pictures she captured for us!
