The door bell rang and the kids found this little delivery sitting outside.
Well Kate was too busy to sit down and read. But the others listened intently. And they know all the rules about the elf. Even Dylan will tell you (with pointed finger) not to touch his elf cause he doesn't want him to lose his magic. But there was one little matter of confusion. And Brynn took it upon herself (unbeknown to us parents but its a good thing we discovered it randomly in the morning) to clear up the matter...

She thought the elf had rather girlish facial features; and the boys saw that it was clearly wearing pants. But since that problem was taken care of, we wrapped up our serious contemplation of what to name him and Swift it was!
And Swift has been having fun ever since playing hide and seek and spy. Although apparently he got stuck in mom's stocking for a few days - oops! Silly elf. He 'explained' later that he didn't think he'd ever get out... No, he doesn't talk. But apparently he does like to play and write with our crayons and paper. So here's to hoping we can keep good reports going to Santa each night (that he doesn't get stuck) because we are sure getting excited!

look at you fun mom! So you chose the big tins and didn't even end up putting candy in them? :) I bet your kids are having a ton of fun with that elf. Love Brynn's notes.
We apparently need to talk about your advent calendar...love it. And I love that Brynn thought to write a note to the elf!!!
My kids have been having the same discussion at our house. They keep fighting ... I mean discussing whether ours is a boy or girl and they ask me about every three days to clarify. =) Oh well. Love that it got stuck in your stocking. Oh, and I'm surprised that a boy elf has such ... flowing, girly handwriting. ;)
Wynnie's note is priceless. That's one of those things I think you should actually save, instead of taking a picture of it to put in a book, or whatever.
Love it! We introduced the Elf this year as well, Jingle Bell Owens. I was so glad that Jingle never forgot to move himself to a new location every day because those kids were on him like hawks!
Also, I saw a similar advent calendar online and wanted to make it this year but got the idea too late. Where did you get the metal tins? I only found some pricey little ones or huge ones at Ikea.
